Kristin's Session:
FD06-Vaping & The Dangers of Gateway Drugs
November 9th, 2018, 4:15pm - 5:30pm
Teens are self-medicating for ADHD by vaping, JUUL'ing, smoking, drinking, and using illicit drugs in an effort to calm their anxious minds. This presentation will share real-life case studies—how they access and often become addicted to nicotine, marijuana, alcohol, prescription medication, and heroin. The goal is to help families obtain a proper mental health diagnosis for ADHD and subsequent treatment.
About the Conference
The biggest ADHD conference of the year is now even better. Last year, ADDA joined CHADD and this year we welcome the ADHD Coaches Organization (ACO) into an even bigger and better conference that has something for everyone. We are looking forward to welcoming you to the 2018 Annual International Conference on ADHD. Our theme of “Together we can…Together we will” represents the coming together of these three organizations and the coming together of the more than 1,000 attendees who bring their wisdom, questions, stories, laughs, and tears for an experience like no other.
Aristotle once said, “The whole is more than the sum of its parts.” We have the chance to experience the expertise, cultures, and energy of three dedicated ADHD organizations. It’s an exciting time to gather together in St. Louis. This conference will bring together adults, parents, adolescents, educators, coaches, clinicians and other professionals from around the country (and the world) to connect, learn and collaborate. For four days, we will have the opportunity to learn alongside the experts in ADHD—and from each other.
Together we can develop new and improved programming…Together we will start the conference with the ADHD Professional Institute on Thursday. This day of learning is for professionals—psychologists, social workers, ADHD coaches, counselors, therapists, educators, physicians, nurses, and speech pathologists—who provide services to individuals with ADHD. This day will be jam packed with opportunities to learn. There will be 30 one-hour sessions and 6 three-hour sessions, with most providing continuing education credits.
Together we can provide an incredible variety of ways to connect, learn and collaborate…Together we will open up the general conference on Thursday afternoon with a reception in the exhibit hall for everyone, followed by our first keynote and then 3 days of non-stop opportunities. There will be general sessions filled with speakers on a wide variety of topics, research symposia, opportunities to connect with friends new and old, new peer support meet-ups, a film screening, a talent show, time for physical activity, coach speed-dating… If you have loved this conference before, you will love it even more with the additions that we have made.
In 1904, the world looked to St. Louis for its grand international exposition that became known as the St. Louis World’s Fair. The Fair brought together people, displays and publications from all over the country and the world. All eyes were on the city as they showcased new knowledge, cutting edge technologies, and innovative ideas of the time. It is our hope that in 2018, eyes around the world will once again be on St. Louis as we showcase the knowledge, cutting edge research and innovative ideas surrounding ADHD with easy access to all.
Together we can…Together we will gather in St. Louis to connect, learn and collaborate! We can’t wait to see you there.
